Joseph S. Mapes (1820-1905), Architect

Joseph Mapes was born on April 29, 1820 in Bedford, Pennsylvania to parents Hannah Holblock and Samuel Mapes.[5] He worked as a carpenter in Michigan and in New York before moving to Nebraska to continue practicing his craft. Mapes first married Sarah Garn in 1845 and had seven children.[5] Sarah died in 1868, and later in 1873 Mapes was married to Mary Randall, and they had two more children.[1][2][3][4][5] Joseph Mapes died in Plattsmouth, Nebraska on April 2, 1905.[5]
