William Arthur (1860-1945), Carpenter-Architect
William Arthur was born in Scotland in February, 1859, and came to the United States on November 20, 1880.[1] He appears in Omaha first as a carpenter, then as an partner in the firm of Arthur & Herd, Contractors & Builders, from 1887-1901. After that time he appears to have worked more as a draftsman and estimator for the Union Pacific Rail Road, listing himself as an architect with them from 1906-1908, and then as an architect without affiliation in 1912. He was last recorded as a draftsman for the railroad in 1920.[3] Arthur was married to Grace M. of New York. They had a one year old son named William.[2] He died July 26, 1945.[4]
