John Joseph Tewhill, Jr. was born in Northampton, Massachusetts on July 20, 1922. Before studying architecture, Tewhill attended Massachusetts State College, receiving his Bachelor of Science in Chemistry in 1942, whereupon he served as 1st Lieutenant in the U.S. Army until 1946. Tewhill then attended Cornell University, where he earned his Bachelor of Architecture in 1950.[3] In the same year, Tewhill began working for the firm John Latenser & Sons, in Omaha. Tewhill died in Omaha in 2009.[4][b]
