Henry Loughry (1852- ), Architect
Henry Loughry was born on January 2, 1852 in Strabana, County Tyron, Ireland, where he was well educated. He immigrated to the United States in December of 1867. He settled in Maryland for about four years, practicing his trade, and then moved to Chicago for one building season, after which he moved to Grinnell, Iowa, where he took a scientific course for five terms at Iowa College. He then took one term of a scientific course at Adrian College in Michigan, moving to Findlay Ohio upon completion of the course. In the fall of 1876, Loughry came to Lincoln, and taught school for about three months, then began business as an architect and contractor, studying geometry and perspective drawing at the University of Nebraska in Lincoln during the winters.[1]
