While Roberts was very often cited as Artemus in print, including his obituary, Artemas appears to be his spelling of his given name. His granite tombstone at Wyuka Cemetery is inscribed "ROBERTS ARTEMAS 1841-1944"

He usually signed as "A. Roberts" but an 1892 plat which he surveyed and filed, "Roberts' First Addition to Normal" beared the signatures of Mary B. Roberts and Artemas Roberts, notarized by Roscoe Pound. The same document also bears his inscription "A. Roberts Surveyor."

I suggest we use "Artemus [sic]" when necessary in quoting a source, and otherwise Artemas throughout Place Makers.
