Wahoo, Nebraska, 1893

Vaclav ("Wencl") Zimola was born in Kouty, Trebec, Jihlava (southern Moravia) in 1852. He emigrated to the U. S. through Baltimore in 1874 and was listed in the 1885 Nebraska census (with his wife "Francisca," age 29 and infant son Wencl) as a carpenter in Saunders County.[3][4] In 1893, he was called an architect in Wahoo, then in the 1900 census his listing was again "carpenter."[1][6] His gravestone in Saint Wenceslaus Cemetery in Wahoo, Nebraska is inscribed "FATHER" along with his birth date of 1852 and his date of death of 1902. The family plot also has a marker for "MOTHER Frances Zimola" (1859-1943).[2] They had married in Wahoo in 1883 and had four sons and four daughters. When Frances died in 1943, her late husband was identified as a "carpenter by trade."[5]
