Ralph Arnold was born in Carbondale, Illinois on October 2, 1889. In 1911, at the age of 22, he earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Architecture from the University of Illinois, Urbana. He began his career with W. W. Beach in Sioux City, Iowa, then established the firm of Beuttler & Arnold in Sioux City with William Beuttler in 1913.[3] In 1941 he left the firm to work for the State Board of Control in Des Moines, Iowa. Arnold was a member of the American Institute of Architects (AIA).[2] He died on November 4, 1961.
