Summary

This three-mile section of the Lincoln Highway is between Omaha and Elkhorn in Douglas County, and is now part of Douglas County road 120. The segment is significant for its association with the Lincoln Highway. Regraded and improved in 1920 with brick pavers covering a sand and concrete base, the road is thought to be the only rural section of the Lincoln Highway in Nebraska which remains in good condition. The Lincoln Highway was envisioned in 1913 by the Lincoln Highway Association as the transcontinental road which would link New York City with San Francisco. This rural road retains good integrity and provides the experience of traveling on an early twentieth-century highway.
