Columbus, Nebraska

Walter Behlen established Behlen Manufacturing in 1941, where he became the inventor of “frameless stressed skin” structures, also called Behlen buildings.[1][5] Due to this important contribution to architecture, Behlen received an honorary doctor of engineering from the University of Nebraska in 1959, as well as an Honorary Doctor of Science from Midland College. In 1966, Behlen became Chairman of the Board of Behlen Manufacturing Company in Columbus, Nebraska. Behlen was born in 1905 and died in 1994.[4]

This page is a contribution to the publication, Place Makers of Nebraska: The Architects. See the format and contents page for more information on the compilation and page organization.
