Summary

Stabrie Grocery was constructed in 1883 northeast of the Central Business District in Omaha, Nebraska. Additions to and changes in how the building has been used represent the evolution of the grocery store, grocery warehouse, wholesale ventures and the manner in which Americans shopped for groceries during the period between the 1880s through 1940s. In addition to changes in grocery enterprises, the building also represents the impact of the Union Pacific Railroad in the surrounding neighborhood's growth and industrialization.

The National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) is the country’s official list of historically significant properties. To be eligible for the NRHP a property must generally retain their historic appearance, be at least 50 years old, and have the potential to be documented as historically or architecturally significant at either the local, state, or national level. The National Register of Historic Places is a National Park Service program administered by the Nebraska State Historical Society for the state of Nebraska.
