Samuel Church was born on May 18, 1879 in Fairmont, Nebraska, to Andrew and Susan Church.[[#References|[2]]] In his short lifetime, Church was an architect and delineator experienced in patent and commercial drawing, initially working in Lincoln.[[#References|[2]]] He spent eight years working in California, eighteen months of which he worked for the architectural department of the Panama-Pacific Exposition.[[#References|[2]]] While in California, Church contracted typhoid fever, recovering, but falling ill again and eventually dying of the sickness in Scottsbluff, Nebraska, at age 38.[[#References|[2]]]
